Child care is a fact of life for many American families. Every day, nearly 12 million children under 5 spend time in child care. High quality care provides children with the learning experiences necessary for school success and enables parents to be reliable, productive employees. Unfortunately, the supply of high quality care in the United States is severely limited. When quality care is available, it is often difficult for parents to afford. A stronger federal commitment to a quality child care system is necessary to ensure that children can learn and families can work.
